design x ecology x culture
We are a research and design lab working on nature and ecology-related issues. After many years of research in design and sustainability, we felt that a more strict conversation has to happen in the design field, a conversation to extend the scope of design from human-centred to life-centred activities. We challenge our creative practice to stimulate and inspire new forms of society and social cultures that do not create boundaries with the environment.
We are inspired by the global research about pluriversal / post-development / more-than-human design, and we contribute along with some major directions:
- speculative design about urban-nature interaction to create a new form of citizenship where nature is not confined to parks but becomes the agent of the urban fabric
- living and transforming materials and bio media, not only interested in the material experiment per se but – as with mosses and mushrooms – also trying to learn from organisms and metabolism
- fieldwork and action research with citizens, using citizen science as a participatory drive for ecology discovery
